How to cook purple sprouting broccoli

There are many ways to cook purple sprouting broccoli, depending on the dish you want to prepare. Here are a few popular methods:

  1. Steaming: Steaming is a quick and easy way to cook purple sprouting broccoli. Simply place the broccoli in a steamer basket over simmering water for 3-5 minutes, or until it is tender.

  2. Boiling: Purple sprouting broccoli can be boiled in a pot of salted water for 3-5 minutes, or until it is tender. Drain the broccoli and serve with butter, lemon juice or cheese.

  3. Roasting: Toss purple sprouting broccoli with a little olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice and roast in the oven at 425F/220C for 10-15 minutes, or until tender and lightly browned.

  4. Stir-fry: Cut the broccoli into bite-sized pieces and stir-fry with other vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms, in a hot wok or skillet with a little oil for 3-5 minutes, or until tender.

  5. Grilling: Purple sprouting broccoli can be grilled on skewers or directly on the grill, basting it with a marinade of your choice. Grill for a few minutes on each side, or until tender and lightly charred.

  6. Raw: Purple sprouting broccoli can also be enjoyed raw, thinly sliced or grated as a salad ingredient or garnish.

The cooking time will depend on the size of your broccoli florets. To check if the broccoli is cooked, you can insert a knife in the thickest part of the stem, if it goes in easily, it's ready. Also, the colour should be vibrant and the texture should be tender but still firm.
