How to store broccoli
The best way to store broccoli is to keep it in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated place. Here are a few ways to store broccoli:
-
Refrigeration: Once the broccoli has been cleaned and trimmed, it can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container or plastic bag for up to a week.
-
Freezing: Broccoli can also be frozen for long-term storage. To freeze, blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then cool them down in ice water, drain them, and place them in airtight containers or freezer bags and store in the freezer for up to 8 months.
-
Fresh: If you have just picked or bought fresh broccoli, store them in a perforated plastic bag in the refrigerator for no more than a couple of days before using them.
-
Canning: Broccoli can also be canned to preserve them for a long time. This method requires a pressure canner and some knowledge of canning techniques, so it's recommended to get a guide or consult with an expert before starting.
It's important to note that if the broccoli is visibly damaged or show signs of mould, they should be discarded. Also, if you are storing fresh broccoli, make sure to remove any damaged or discoloured parts as they can cause the good ones to spoil more quickly.
