How to store parsnips
The best way to store parsnips is to keep them in a cool, dark, and dry place, such as a root cellar or a refrigerator crisper. They will keep for several months when stored this way, but it's important to check them regularly and remove any that have begun to spoil.
Before storing parsnips, it's important to clean them thoroughly, scrubbing off any dirt or debris with a brush. Then cut off the tops and any damaged or discoloured areas.
Parsnips can be stored in a plastic bag or wrapped in a paper towel to keep them dry and prevent them from wilting. They should be stored in the refrigerator crisper for up to 2-3 weeks.
If you have excess parsnips that you can't use within a couple of weeks, you can also freeze them for later use. You should first blanch them by boiling them for 2-3 minutes, then plunge them in an ice water bath, drain them and store them in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag for up to 8 months in the freezer.
When storing parsnips, it's important to keep them away from ethylene-producing fruits, such as apples and bananas, as the ethylene gas can cause them to ripen faster.
