How to store swede

Swede, also known as rutabaga, is a root vegetable that can be stored in a variety of ways to ensure it stays fresh and flavourful. Here are a few tips on how to store swede properly:

  1. Keep it cool: Swede should be stored in a cool, dry place with a temperature between 32-40F (0-4C) and high humidity.

  2. Refrigeration: Swede can be stored in the refrigerator in a perforated plastic bag or a container with a lid, it will last up to 2-3 weeks.

  3. Do not wash: Swede should not be washed before storing as the added moisture can cause it to spoil more quickly.

  4. Avoid Ethylene: Swede should be stored away from ethylene-producing fruits and vegetables, such as apples, bananas, and tomatoes, as the ethylene gas can cause them to ripen or spoil faster.

  5. Freezing: Swede can also be frozen, it should be peeled, diced, and blanched, then placed in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag and stored in the freezer for up to 8 months.

  6. Check for freshness: Before storing, make sure the swede is fresh, if there are any signs of mould, softness or overripe, discard it.

By following these tips, you can help your swede stay fresh and flavourful for as long as possible. Remember that swede is a root vegetable, so it's best to use it as soon as possible after you buy it or pick it.
